The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka
is the first Sports Governing body to start the National Chess Calender
events among all Sports Bodies in Sri Lanka. The CFSL startted the 7th
Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020 where top 12 Chess players play round
robin system for supremacy. The event was started following all medical guidelines and history record of players was also taken before starting the event. Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, The General Secretary - South Asian Chess Council, General Secretary - Commonwealth Chess Association & Vice President of Asian Chess Federation made the ceremonial opening with the presence of the officers of CFSL. Reigning Champion - Chandana Wijekoon, Former National Chess Champions - GC Anuruddha & Minul Sanjula Doluweera, International Master - Romesh Weerawardena, The 2019 National Team player, Young LMST De Silva, Under 16 National Champion - Kevin Ranindu Silva, National Amateur Champion - EDS Chandula, Buddhika Amarasinghe Seniors - Dimuthu Priyadarhana & Elath Mathanga, Young stars - Jenith Weeratunge & Thisal Manjith Piyumantha are participating in the event. LMST De Silva, EDS Chandual and Minul Doluweera are leading the event with 2 points out of possible two and GC Anuruddha follows with just half a point behind, 1 1/2 points. Other games will be held on 12th, 13th, 17th, 18th & 19th followed by the prize giving on final day. The Chess Federation has offered Rs. 50,000/= for the Champion with a total of Rs. 115,000/- prize fund with trophies and Medals. Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020 to be held on 11th, 12th, 13th, 17th,
18th and 19th of July 2020 at the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. Only
12 leading Chess players will compete for supremacy at the event. |

The event conducted by the Chess
Federation of Sri Lanka with a prize fund of a Rs. 115,000/= total is
one of the most important events in the Sri Lankan Chess Calendar. All
